Founded in 1995 in Waregem, Belgium, Aborted has established itself for nearly three decades as one of the pillars of European brutal death metal and goregrind. Created by vocalist Sven de Caluwé, the only founding member still active, the band has forged an international reputation thanks to a style that is at once ultra-violent, technically impeccable, and cinematic, blending sharp riffs, furious blasts, and horrific atmospheres.
Goremageddon: The Saw and the Carnage Done (2003) The cult album. A pinnacle of brutality and technical gore. It was with this album that Aborted entered the big leagues. It featured cleaner production, more solid compositions, and a distinct sense of horror.
The Necrotic Manifesto (2014) A steamroller. More direct, more brutal, this album is a demonstration of strength. It combines the effectiveness of Goremageddon with the maturity acquired since.
Vault of Horrors (2024) A tribute to the monsters of the genre. This EP is a declaration of love to horror, gore cinema, and explosive collaborations. More than just an interlude between albums, Vault of Horrors is distinguished by its prestigious guests, as each track features a figure from the extreme scene, and each song is inspired by a cult horror film, strengthening the connection between Aborted and the macabre cinematic universe with an ever-more massive sound.
Inspired by both American death metal classics (Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation) and the imagery of horror and medical gore films, Aborted has evolved without denying its roots. With landmark albums like Goremageddon: The Saw and the Carnage Done (2003), Global Flatline (2012), and TerrorVision (2018), the band combines destructive efficiency with gloomy atmospheres, often accentuated by samples taken from cinema.
Despite numerous lineup changes over the years, Aborted remains a live powerhouse, acclaimed for its meticulous live performances and brutal energy. Their music, a cross between death metal, grindcore, and sometimes deathcore, continues to push the boundaries of brutality with surgical precision.
